Tweetbot 5

I posted my short review of Tweetbot 2.0 for Mac a few days ago—it's the best Twitter client in the world. In my humble opinion naturally. In my humble opinion naturally. ★ Tweetbot 2.0 – Mac – €19.99 €12.99 →. The bot is back, showing Twitter how things should be done on your iPhone. Price: $9.99/£7.99 ($4.99 / £3.99 at launch) Size: 6.8 MB Version: 4.0 Developer: Tapbots Time was iOS paid host to a thriving ecosystem of Twitter apps. Tweetbot 3 is the most powerful Twitter client I have on my iPhone. If you don't like iOS 7, I don't think that you'll like the new Tweetbot. While the original Tweetbot was, in many ways, a departure from the default/Tweetie look of most Twitter clients in 2011, Tweetbot 3 is very much in line with the current design language of iOS 7.

As Twitter has decided to focus on simplicity, its iPhone app is now a shadow of its former self for more advanced users (and for Twitter, search and lists apparently qualify as advanced features). Thankfully, there are some very good alternatives on market and among those, Tweetbot has long been my favorite. Today, the app's developers launched version 2.0 of Tweetbot and it's a worthy upgrade to what was already – in my view – the best iPhone client for iOS.

Speed and New Features

The first thing you will likely notice when you start Tweetbot 2.0 is that it is significantly faster than previous versions. Searches, for example, now feel like they take a quarter of the time to appear on your screen.

Besides the speed, though, the app also now sports a number of new features. The updated timeline view, for example, now lets you immediately click on links and usernames. Before, you first had to select a tweet before these links became active. The timeline now also features in-line image thumbnails that let you quickly view an image with just one click.

Another nifty new feature is support for Readability as a mobilizer service. Just like Apple's Reader feature lets you see a text-only view of a website, you can now set Tweetbot to immediately see a text-only view of any link you click on (or you can toggle back and forth between the Readability view and the regular page).

Since its launch yesterday, popular Twitter client Tweetbot 3 for iPhone has topped the paid app charts in several App Store-supported countries across the world. A look at AppAnnie's data indicates that the new application is the top paid app overall in 35 countries, and it is the top app in the Social Networking category in 70 countries. As Tweetbot developer Paul Haddad notes, these impressive launch day statistics are evidence for why developers should charge for major app updates…

Today, the developers behind Tweetbot have published a question and answer guide that answers some of the more common questions from customers about the new app. The post also indicates some helpful enhancements that will come in future updates to Tweetbot 3. Namely, a new way to adjust font size (separate from iOS 7's Dynamic Type feature), a dark theme, new swiping gestures, and fixes for commonly reported bugs are in the works. The developers also say that Tweetbot 2 will return to the App Store with bug fixes in the near future.

In terms of other Apple devices getting new Tweetbot apps, an iPad redesign is in the works, and an update for Tweetbot for Mac with support for OS X Maverick's Smooth Scrolling feature is incoming.
